Beyond Good

God saw all that he had made, and it was very good. And there was evening, and there was morning—the sixth day. (Genesis 1:31 NIV)

God created the heavens and the earth and said, “It was very good.” These would not be the words I would choose. Miraculous. Breathtaking. Magnificent. Awe-inspiring. WOW! When I look around at the beauty in creation, be it dazzling sunsets or snow-capped mountains, I am often speechless. There are no words to accurately capture the beauty that abounds.

So, I’m often puzzled when I meet people who don’t believe in God. How can anyone wander this glorious landscape and not know there was something (someone) beyond this world behind it? Even those in remote lands who have never heard of God must marvel at creation and ponder its origins. The Bible tells us in Romans 1:20 that people are “without excuse,” because all have access to his divine power and the beauty around them.

While nature can be a wonderful place to experience God’s presence, we need to always remember the One who created it and give him the glory. We must never fall into the trap of worshiping the creation over the Creator.

As you look around or out your window right now, what do you want to thank God for in his beautiful creation? How can nature help us build a deeper belief and connection with God?

The heavens declare the glory of God; the skies proclaim the work of his hands. (Psalm 19:1 NIV)
